ValueEdge – proudly supporting the Federal Government’s Indigenous Youth Mobility Program (IYMP) through application of the language-free culture-fair Q Test with Nyaarla Projects

Nyaarla Projects is a specialist provider of services relating to Training and Employment, Youth Services and Education, Public Participation/Community Consultation and general Consulting (reviews, business planning etc.).

Through their expertise in supporting Indigenous Australians across these service areas, Nyaarla Projects have been successful in expanding their delivery of the DEEWR IYMP from 1 to 3 (Perth, Broome and Port Hedland) of the 17 designated regions throughout Australia from July 2009 to December 2012. To assist them in optimising their IYMP outcomes, Nyaarla Projects have identified the Q Test as an appropriate assessment tool to support their pathway selection process for their program applicants.

What is the IYMP?

The Indigenous Youth Mobility Program (IYMP) provides young Indigenous Australians (16-24) with the opportunity to participate in post-secondary training or education in the form of full-time study at TAFE, University a traineeship or an apprenticeship.

Through their delivery of IYMP in one location over the past 3 years, Nyaarla Projects had over 100 Indigenous youth participate in Perth, so they are very excited as to what they can achieve in the next 3 years through 3 locations.

Some examples of what people have done over the past 3 years include:

  • University Bridging courses
  • Traineeships such as Sport and Recreation, Conservation and Land Management, Business Administration, Childcare
  • Apprenticeships such as Carpentry and Joinery, Automotive (Motor) Mechanic, Electrician
  • Full-time studies in areas such as Information Technology, Music, the Arts, Business, Building and Construction
  • University studies in areas such as Graphic Design, Commerce, Media, Geology, Law and Nursing

During their delivery of the IYMP from 2009 to 2012, Nyaarla Projects look forward to helping program participants discover what it is that they want to do and then helps them achieve that. The range of support services they will provide include career planning, enrolment support, ongoing mentoring, subsidised accommodation and job search assistance.

Through our application of the Q Test as part of the initial assessment process with their program participants, ValueEdge look forward to assisting Nyaarla Projects in achieving this goal.
